Affability is an intentional quality that can be developed by anyone. It is both external and internal in its expression and result. It comes natural for some, but can be mastered by anyone who wants to both impact and influence the lives of others. In my trusty 1828 Webster’s Dictionary, Affability is defined as: “The quality of being affable; readiness to converse; civility and courteousness, in receiving others, and in conversation; condescension in manners. Affability of countenance is that mildness of aspect, which invites to free social intercourse.” When I think of two words that describe Affability, I think of “readiness and inviting.” The more “ready” we are the more “inviting” we are.
